‘Oh hell no’ people slate wedding guest for ‘bridal mermaid’ gown that’s way too white and has cutouts
NO matter how much you fall in love with a wedding guest dress, there’s one thing to remember – never upstage the bride.
Amongst the unwritten rules all wedding guests should follow include steering clear of anything too revealing, attention-grabbing, or close to white in colour.
But one woman who considered turning a blind eye to all of these shared the off-white mermaid-style gown she was planning on wearing to a friend’s upcoming nuptials.
Taking to Reddit, she asked: “Is this dress OK to wear as a wedding guest?”
She went on to say that the dress code for the big day was “formal full length and tea length evening gowns.”
“I bought this dress a couple years ago for a cruise I was going on, but ended up not going, so it’s just been sitting in my closet,” the woman continued.
“I was trying to utilise a dress that I already own if possible.
“I do have another dress that my mum bought me a while back, but I’ve been avoiding wearing it because I feel like it’s kind of ‘matronly’ for my age. I can post pics of that one too.”
The dress by Adrianna Papell is described as “pale yellow” on the label and features detailed embroidery and cut out detail.
So it’s little surprise the post garnered quite the response, with forum users all quick to share one resounding answer as to whether it was suitable for a wedding – “oh helllll no!”
“I thought this WAS a wedding dress. It’s too light coloured,” wrote one.
A second penned: “Definitely not appropriate. It’s way to bridal.”
A third commented: “I don’t know if it’s the lighting but it’s a tad too white for me.
“It’s also the cut because the mermaid and tulle details are kinda bridal.”
Meanwhile, a fourth noted: “I feel like I’m being trolled because the first two pics look like you’re wearing a wedding dress. Don’t wear this.”
Another penned: “Too light. Too bridal in design and embroidery. Sorry.”
A further chimed in: “Absolutely not wedding attire!”
And a further admitted: “This one is too close to a bridal colour in my opinion. I would have side eyed someone in this dress if it were my wedding.
