Revolutionize health research with All of Us: Online and in-person events this April
Citizen science is a global movement that involves people from all walks of life in real science that matters to them. Each April and beyond, scientists, facilitators, citizen science project leaders, and many others host events and programs to invite more people to discover all the ways they can participate in research that needs their help. That’s right, it’s almost that time again: Citizen Science Month!
This April — Citizen Science Month — our theme is #OneMillionActsofScience. With your help, we aim to make a collective impact, where our goal is to collectively generate over one million data points to featured projects. Acts of Science include attending a science event, contributing to a citizen science project, and more.

Citizen Science Month, organized by SciStarter and Arizona State University, wouldn’t be possible without the support of the Network of the National Library of Medicine All of Us Program Center and the All of Us Research Program. All of Us is inviting one million people across the U.S. to help build one of the most diverse health databases in history, by filling out surveys and contributing health data.
People who join All of Us share information about their health, habits, and what it’s like where they live. By looking for patterns, researchers may learn more about what affects people’s health.

Celebrate DNA Day: Spotlight on Genetics and Equity
Join the Los Angeles Public Library – Westwood branch, All of Us California, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, SciStarter, the LA Office of the City Clerkand the Network of the National Library of Medicine for an event where we take a deep dive into genetics and equity.
ABOUT THE EVENT
In this event, community leaders will begin a conversation about how healthcare research hasn’t always included all demographics and types of people – and how this can change with a little help from YOU. Then, because the room is set up with chairs in a circle, attendees can grab the mic and share their thoughts on discussion questions with community leaders, health professionals, and researchers. All people, of all backgrounds, are welcome to contribute!
The formal conversation starts at 4:30 PM PT, but come at 4 PM PT for snacks, tabling with the below partners, the opportunity to participate in the All of Us Research program, and hands-on citizen science activities where you can do more real science. After the conversation ends at 5:30 PM PT, we’ll stick around for more informal interaction and fun!

The Environment & All of Us: How The Environment Can Impact Your Health
Join the Pacficia Sharp Park Library, All of Us California, SciStarter, and the Network of the National Library of Medicine for an event where we take a deep dive into the future of healthcare and how to understand how environmental issues can impact YOUR health. This will be an immersive event where community, science, and innovation converge!

In this event, community leaders present lightening talks about topics relating to the future of healthcare and environmental issues, including how healthcare research hasn’t always included all demographics and types of people – and how this can change with a little help from YOU.
Then, a moderator will facilitate a community conversation, where attendees can grab the mic and share their thoughts on discussion questions with community leaders, health professionals, and researchers. All people, of all backgrounds, are welcome to contribute!

We’ll also be talking about how you can investigate your ancestry and use services provided by the Alachua County Public Library, and SciStarter will be introducing the Eterna project, where you can help design RNA-based vaccines by solving puzzles!
