One person treated for smoke inhalation, family of three displaced following CT house fire

One person was treated for smoke inhalation following a house fire in Hamden in the early morning hours Friday that displaced a family of three.

Fire crews responded to a home on Long Meadow Avenue after receiving a report of a fire at the residence just before 3:20 a.m., arriving within minutes, according to the Hamden Fire Department.

The first crews on scene saw smoke showing from the eaves of the house and flames above the corner of the garage, fire officials said. Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack of the blaze on the second floor of the home and were able to quickly find and extinguish a fire behind a knee wall in a bedroom, according to fire officials.

Fire officials said the family of three and their two dogs were able to evacuate the home. One resident was treated by medics at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.

Hamden firefighters spent about two hours at the scene performing overhaul operations while the North Haven Fire Department provided station coverage, according to fire officials.

Fire officials said the blaze originated in the attic space above the garage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Hamden Fire Marshal’s Office.
