I was told my outfit was ‘inappropriate’ & I was ‘ruining my friend’s wedding’ – the bride’s posse had some choice words
ONE wedding guest was reeling after being reprimanded for her choice of attire.
She thought she was following the rules but her outfit turned into a dress code disaster.
Reddit user (few_pollution_8375) had declined the invitation to be a bridesmaid at one of her childhood best friend’s destination weddings due to her busy schedule.
Still, the resident doctor was looking forward to her friend’s nuptials which were to be held in Italy, and was still kept in the loop about all of the updates.
The official dress code was described as “full black, anything but dresses for women, and full black business casual for men.”
She realized that she had only one “wedding-appropriate outfit” which included straight-leg full-length satin pants and a bustier leather corset top.
She was so concerned about whether or not the attire was appropriate that she even sent a photo to the bride-to-be.
Her friend adamantly expressed that she was only concerned with her attending her big day and didn’t even care if she showed up “butt naked.”
Armed with her bestie’s approval, she went with her corset look while her husband donned an all-black ensemble including a turtleneck, blazer, and jeans.
Even though the bride was on board with her attire, that didn’t stop her posse from provoking her.
“Then out of the blue, one cousin of the bride came to me and said that my outfit was inappropriate and that I was ruining the wedding,” she said.
Things only got worse when one of the bridesmaids agreed with the cousin’s sentiments.
This prompted her to stick up for her style.
“I explained to them that I had gotten the bride’s approval so I didn’t see the problem and that there were other women dressed in dresses that broke the dress code.
“I didn’t see why they were only coming for me,” she said.
Still, they didn’t back down as they continued to plead their “corset” case.
They believed that since the bride would be spending more time with her than the other guests, her “attention whore outfit” was only making things that much worse.
And that wasn’t all.
“All the wedding photos are going to look so out of place because of you,” they said.
Despite her husband’s best efforts to defend her, his cries fell on deaf, dress code defending ears.
Other users had plenty to say about those wedding attire woes after she asked if she was the a**hole in this situation.
“They were jealous,” said one user.
“You got approval from the only person whose opinion mattered,” said another reader.
“Class act!” yet another said.
“I’m so sick of the girl police talking to guests about their clothing choices. It’s none of their business and, frankly, the ask by the bride was over the top for her guests.
“You did nothing wrong except make these idiots jealous because they didn’t attack any of the guests wearing dresses,” one user said.
According to polling by YouGov, the dress code issues Americans deem to be most inappropriate include wearing an outfit that is more extravagant than the couple’s.
Almost 80% of people also thought that dressing too casually despite a formal dress code was also a major no-no.
