OKC Animal Shelter overcapacity: seeks homes for dogs

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — Oklahoma City's animal shelter is currently holding over 400 dogs and is facing the challenge of being at overcapacity and seeks the help of the community.

The shelter is currently at 139 percent capacity for its dogs and is determined to seek homes for them. In part of this, the animal shelter will be offering to waive all adoption fees for the dogs until they are able to reach a capacity that is sustainable again.

Older dogs and small puppies are susceptible to respiratory illnesses which is increasing the urgency to find these pups a foster or even a forever home.

Dogs of all sizes will be included in the adoption fee waivers. Each adoption from the shelter or to a foster family will include the essential services that are needed such as spaying, vaccinations, neutering and microchipping.

Those interested in adopting but are unable to do so permanently are encouraged to take part in the shelters foster program which allows those to view the dogs available on the shelters website and go pick up a temporary canine friend. The process usually takes about 48 hours to complete.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering one of these adorable dogs, the time to visit the shelter is from noon to 5 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday. The shelter is located on 2811 SE 29th St.
