Woman accused of attempted kidnapping of baby at Baton Rouge hospital arrested
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A woman accused of attempted kidnapping of a baby at Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital was arrested Thursday.
Police say that Dinesty Selmon, 21, has been seen visiting the hospital since March 1. Selmon gave a fake name and room number to access the child's room, according to police. That's when she was granted the access code to go inside.
The resource officer at the hospital noticed Selmon constantly went to different floors of the hospital, talking to patients and even pretended to be the mother of the baby.
A nurse who noticed her frequent visits, called the nurse at the intensive care unit about Selmon, later discovering that she's been entering the child's room for weeks.
Selmon allegedly told her boyfriend that the child was theirs and even gave a fake name of the baby, officials said. They said that the boyfriend actually called the hospital and requested to know more information about the baby.
Selmon reportedly began to make hospital visits with the boyfriend, requesting medical appointments with the baby, even telling the nurses the baby's medical records. When the boyfriend told the hospital the baby's fake name, he was told that those records didn't exist, according to officials.
On March 12, Baton Rouge Police Detectives were given enough information to obtain an arrest warrant. On Tuesday, Selmon was arrested by the Bossier City Police Department and booked as a fugitive.
BRPD Detectives arrived at the Bossier City Police Department Thursday and transferred Selmon back to Baton Rouge where she is now booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Selmon is charged with attempted kidnapping and seven counts of unauthorized entry of a business.
This is still an ongiong investigation.
