It would mean Camilla, 76, taking centre stage alongside US President Joe Biden and French leader Emmanuel Macron at Omaha Beach in Normandy — stormed by Allied troops in 1944.

The King, 75, is keen to make the June 6 event — one of the last with living veterans — but may concede he is not well enough to travel.

Doctors treating him for cancer may also advise against the journey.

Prince William, who completed seven-and-a-half years of full-time military service, will likely also be present.

The Queen has stood in for the King for a string of public events since his cancer diagnosis this year.

Sources said the monarch was “very proud of her” and believes she has been doing “a wonderful job”.

He is set to increase the number of events he attends in the summer and hopes to be at the Trooping the Colour in London on June 15.
