Stormy, wet conditions across DC area following fair Easter weekend
A stalled front draped from west to east across our area will waver around for the next few days, causing the active weather pattern we expect to see during that time, according to 7News First Alert Meteorologist Mark Peña.
Easter Sunday may have started on the calmer side, but the work week is bringing some rain, thunder and winds to D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Here’s what you need to know.
A stalled front draped from west to east across our area will waver around for the next few days, creating the chance for some unsettled spring weather through most of the workweek, according to 7News First Alert Meteorologist Mark Peña.
“Monday looks to feature mainly moderate to heavy rain for the first half of the day as one of the disturbances above moves into the region,” Peña told WTOP.
He said commuters driving into the city from Maryland should prepare for heavier rain than Virginia commuters will need to. Wet conditions are expected to last through the early afternoon hours
the evening drive should be calm and dry.
“While a strong storm or two is possible for areas like Central Virginia, besides some rumbles of thunder for the DC metro, little to no severe weather is expected,” Peña said.
A little sliver of sunshine on the horizon as we round out the weekend on a quiet note. The new workweek looks active with rain chances returning tonight into Monday and the risk for severe weather midweek. More at https://t.co/5RyZgpfrqr. #MDwx #VAwx #WVwx #DCwx pic.twitter.com/wrz04xgr3P

The bigger storm threat will appear on Tuesday and is much more literally up in the air.
“If, and a big emphasis on IF, the stalled front nearby lifts to the north and ushers in warmer air ahead of the next disturbance … it’s possible we could see some thunderstorms which could be strong to severe,” Peña told WTOP.
In either event, he says the region is likely to see additional moderate to heavy rain on Tuesday.
