I gave my front steps & patio a makeover with some ‘gauntlet gray’ – it was actually really easy & transformed my yard
A DIY fan has taken the unusual step of redecorating her yard.
She has given her front steps and patio a makeover with some “gauntlet gray.”
The whole process was actually really easy, she said.
By the time she had finished this job, she had transformed her yard.
Taking on a task like this did not daunt Spetrichhome (@spetrichhome).
This lady is no stranger to DIY, but this project was more unusual.
Everyone’s heard of redecorating a room with a splash of paint, but a patio?
That’s just what she did and she showed how in her post.
STEP 1:
First, she prepared the area at the front of her house.
She used a pressure washer to remove residual dirt and dust from the steps and path.
STEP 2:
Next, she repaired some cracks on the steps.
She used a tube of concrete repair she purchased from her local hardware store.
STEP 3:
She was ready to apply the paint. But first she put some additives in to make it “less slick.”
She went for Gauntlet Gray to match the color palette of her house.
Our DIY queen used a special porch and floor enamel from Sherwin Williams.
“Painted the whole area. It was easy and satisfying,” she said.

- Banana peels, vinegar, and coffee grounds are often recommended as natural fertilizers.
- Dollar Tree sells four packs of seeds for $1.25.
- Try a vertical planter like Amazon’s Mr. Stacky 5 Tier Stackable Planter, $35 to make more use of a small space.
- Use netting like the Garden Netting Pest Barrier, $8, from Amazon to keep away bugs that eat your vegetables.
- Try sacrificial planting to reduce the use of pesticides and keep pests away from your garden. Deliberately growing certain plants to attract agricultural pests can keep them away from the plants you want to protect. Examples include marigolds, lavender, catnip, and chives.
- For pesky weeds in your garden, the Grampa’s Weeder – The Original Stand-Up Weed Puller Tool with Long Handles, $45, from Amazon is a helpful tool you can use without having to bend over.
STEP 4:
As a final flourish, she replaced the plants in the bedding area on either side of the path.
She was delighted with the outcome and so were some of her viewers.
“Looks amazing. I want to paint mine now. I love it,” said one person.
“I love how it’s just a subtle change but made a huge difference. Good job you,” added another.
But there was concern from some people that this makeover wouldn’t last.
“Looks good but you just gave your self a lifetime of maintenance,” wrote one person in a view echoed by several others.
But our DIY lady had the answer to that.
“If you use the right paint it will last,” she said.
