WATCH: Leopard Barges Into Delhi Home, Jumps Off Roof; 5 Injured

Delhi News: Panic gripped Jagatpur village in Burari area of north Delhi’s Wazirabad after a leopard barged into a residential house in the area on Monday morning, injuring at least five people. Visuals shared on social media showed the wild animal jumping off a roof onto the terrace of another building as panicked locals look on in awe.

According to officials, five people were injured when the leopard strayed into a house and attacked the residents, however, Delhi fire services sleuths, with the help of some locals, managed to lock the animal in a room, preventing the wild cat from dishing out more carnage.

Delhi Fire Service said the incident took place at around 6:20 AM on Monday morning and two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

“With the help of the locals, the officials locked the leopard in a room. The injured were sent to a hospital,” Delhi Fire Service (DFS) chief Atul Garg said.

Garg said that efforts are underway to rescue the leopard which is currently trapped inside a room.

Locals said the leopard was first sighted at around 4:30 AM and residents informed the police at 5:15 AM.

“The leopard tried to attack a group of people, some were injured,” a resident told news agency PTI.

The residents highlighted the fact that the village is surrounded by a forest area but there is no fencing of any kind to prevent wild animals from straying into residential areas.

A senior police official said they received a call about a leopard barging into a house in Jagatpur village, following which the local police reached the spot and forest department officials were informed.

“Seven personnel of the forest department, a team from the Delhi Fire Department along with the local police are present at the spot. The leopard has been locked in a room and rescue operations are underway,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north) M K Meena.

The officer said that five people were injured in the leopard attack and three of them have been identified as Mahender, Akash and Rampal.
