Buckeyes offense developing entering final two weeks of spring practice

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- More than halfway through the spring practice schedule, Ohio State's offense continues to develop. And while it promises to be deep and talented, there weren't many concrete answers as to how the depth chart will shake out entering the final two weeks of training.

One of the biggest headlines this spring is and has always been the quarterback competition. While many pegged Kansas state transfer Will Howard as the designated front runner, it's still too early to call him the winner. Lincoln Keinholz and Devin Brown have both rotated into starter reps and head coach Ryan Day says that's no accident.

"I think we'll take a look and see, as we go into the last two weeks, which are probably our most important of spring practice, how we want them to continue to get the reps," Day said. "[Saturday] and up to this point, we just rolled them. You want to give everyone an opportunity to play with the ones, twos and threes and just see what that looks like when it's all the same."

As the spring continues, so also does the search for Ohio State's new running backs coach. Day says the staff has been taking their time looking for someone to replace Tony Alford, who fled to the team up north. Day hopes to name someone in the upcoming week.

The offense certainly has options with TreVeyon Henderson and Mississippi transfer Quinshon Judkins. This past weekend during the "Student Appreciation Day" practice, fans saw true freshman and Pickerington North alum Sam Williams-Dixon get action and Day says he's impressed with how quickly he's picked things up this spring.

Overall, Day likes what he's seeing so far from the backfield.

"I think all the running backs have run hard this spring. I think they've seen a little bit of the different schemes that we're doing, not that they're that much different. Just a little bit different. And they're picking that up pretty well," Day said. "I think Tre has done a great job with his leadership. Quinshon's done a really good job. So I'm excited about all of them and I think it's a deep room. I'd like to think it's the best room in terms of talent in the country. And we're going to continue to build on that."
