Emmy Experts predict Elizabeth Debicki (‘The Crown’) will win Best Drama Supporting Actress
Having trouble predicting who will win Best Drama Supporting Actress at the 2024 Emmy Awards? Let’s consult Gold Derby’s Emmy Experts! These savvy pundits from major media outlets have chimed in with their first set of predictions, and they say the trophy will go to Elizabeth Debicki (“The Crown”). The other potential nominees at this early stage are Greta Lee (“The Morning Show”), Lesley Manville (“The Crown”), Christine Baranski (“The Gilded Age”), Cynthia Nixon (“The Gilded Age”), Kristin Scott Thomas (“Slow Horses”), Nicole Beharie (“The Morning Show”) and Holland Taylor (“The Morning Show”) — but that could all change in the coming months.
As of this writing, eight out of our nine Emmy Experts predict a victory for Debicki: Christopher Rosen (Gold Derby), Clayton Davis (Variety), Eric Deggans (NPR), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Peter Travers (ABC), Ray Richmond (Gold Derby), Shawn Edwards (WDAF-TV Fox) and Thelma Adams (Gold Derby). Part one of the final season of “The Crown” depicts the tragic last days of Princess Diana‘s life, as portrayed by Debicki. Already this year, the actress has taken home trophies at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice and SAG Awards … Emmys next?
The final Emmyologist — Jazz Tangcay (Variety) — instead believes Lee will prevail for Season 3 of Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show.” She plays Stella Bak, President of UBA’s news division, whose past relationship with tech billionaire Paul Marks (Jon Hamm) comes to light when he tries to buy the company. Notably, Lee is coming off of an acclaimed film role in “Past Lives,” which nabbed her bids at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice and Independent Spirit Awards.
Also looking strong in our Experts’ rankings is Manville for Season 6 of “The Crown.” She is the final actress to portray Princess Margaret on the Netflix regal drama, with the episode titled “Ritz” focusing on the series of strokes that led to her death. This would mark Manville’s first career Emmy citation, though she’s already been nominated at the BAFTA TV Awards (supporting actress) and SAG Awards (ensemble) for this role.
Some of the most recent Emmy winners in the Best Drama Supporting Actress category include Jennifer Coolidge (“The White Lotus”), Julia Garner (“Ozark”), Gillian Anderson (“The Crown”), Julia Garner (“Ozark”) and Thandiwe Newton (“Westworld”). Find out who will be in the running to join this esteemed list when the Primetime Emmy nominations are announced on July 17, 2024.
