WFP creates PayPal accounts for women receiving cash aid
The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced creating an online payment service or PayPal account for women reliant on cash assistance from international relief agencies, citing the continued need increase in Afghanistan.
This international program stated on Monday, April 1st, on its official social media platform X, that the purpose of establishing this online payment service is to prevent the waste of time for women who are forced to wait for hours in long queues to receive assistance.
WFP Afghanistan section has also stated that from 2022 until now, 80,000 digital accounts have been opened, making digital aid much easier and more widespread.
According to the World Food Program’s announcement, decades of conflict and political turmoil have inflicted heavy damage on Afghan society, especially women, with the resurgence of the interim government in 2021 and the imposition of restrictions on women exacerbating this situation.
Individuals eligible for this process can create digital accounts on their mobile phones, eliminating the need to go to banks. Instead, they can transfer their digital Afghan currency with any phone with an account and use it.
