ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A former Louisiana State Police trooper has been arrested for allegedly not investigating two crashes correctly in St. Tammany Parish in 2023.

State police reported 56-year-old Brett Dupre was arrested on Monday, April 1 and was charged with two counts of malfeasance in office and one count of filing false public records.

According to the LSP, his charges stem from two unrelated crashes that happened last April. At the time, Dupre was on patrol duty in Troop L.

Investigators allege that he "intentionally failed to properly document and investigate the crashes. As a result of Dupre’s malfeasance, the crash reports contained false information, and two suspected impaired drivers were not taken into custody."

The LSP reported the crashes were re-examined, the crash reports were amended and those involved were charges accordingly.

Dupre was put on administrative leave when the investigation began, during which he retired in August of 2023.

He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
