Deported felon illegally reenters U.S. and commits more crimes. He’s headed back to prison
An El Salvadoran national living in East Hartford was sentenced Wednesday to two years in federal prison for illegally reentering the U.S. after being deported following a stabbing conviction, officials said.
Salvador Herrera Morales, 30, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven to 24 months in prison after pleading guilty to illegal reentry on Jan. 9, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In March 2014, Herrera Morales stabbed a victim in East Hartford, court records show. He was convicted in state court of first-degree assault in August 2015 and sentenced to seven years in prison. In April 2021, Herrera Morales was deported to El Salvador after serving his sentence, according to court records.
In 2022, he reportedly illegally reentered the U.S., federal officials said. In April of that year, Herrera Morales was arrested by the East Hartford Police Department following an incident at a bar where he was reportedly intoxicated, punched a security guard and kicked and shattered a glass door, court records show. In June 2022, Herrera Morales was sentenced for criminal mischief to 364 days in prison, execution suspended, and one year of probation in state court, according to court records.
Herrera Morales was arrested again in April 2023 by East Hartford police and charged with disorderly conduct, third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and second-degree threatening. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the state charges are pending.
Herrera Morales has been detained since his arrest on April 26, 2023, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
