I make my neighbors jealous with my lawn – I turned my mower into a DIY striper, my yard looks like a baseball field
BASEBALL season is back and now you can make your lawn look like a diamond with a simple DIY hack.
One TikTok user showed his followers how he converted his mower to give his garden a striped finish.
In his viral video, Ken C. Long (@ken.c.long) gave his viewers a close-up look at his lawn mower.
After showing a sped-up shot of him mowing his lawn, he revealed the DIY trick that created the striped look.
“It’s easier than you think to create those crisp stripes on your lawn that all your neighbors are jealous of,” Ken told his audience.
He described his homemade striper attachment as “extremely easy” to make.
While some mowers come with adjustable settings or add-ons to create a baseball field finish, Ken used a homemade device on his machine.
First, he measured the width of his mower, between the back set of wheels.
Ken then took a large plastic tube and covered one end before placing it on its side.
He filled the tube with sand and concealed it before drilling holes on either side.
The carefully placed holes allowed him to attach the homemade contraption to his mower without spilling any of the contents.
Placing the tube between the wheels meant the weight of the sand was distributed as it turned.
“The weighted roller pushes the grass one way and vice versa after they are cut,” one viewer explained.
“Alternate the direction and it creates stripes.
“When you look at the lawn, the blades lying away from you appear lighter than the other row.”
The TikTok user went on to compare the technique to running your hand over suede so that it looks different.
By adding weight to the rear of his mower, Ken was able to lay the grass down as he cut it, creating a striped pattern.
