People tell me it’s a ‘no-brainer’ to break up with my girlfriend – she had a ridiculous complaint about my internet

A MAN shared the unusual reason he wanted to break up with his girlfriend.

While his feelings for his partner were strong, it was a different kind of connection he was worried about.

In a Reddit post, the unnamed 26-year-old revealed that he had been dating his girlfriend, who he referred to as Emily, for a year.

He described Emily as “a very nice person” but explained that she had a character trait that concerned him.

“She isn’t always the smartest, she is into a lot of pseudoscience and I once had to talk her out of going to the store to buy gift cards to pay her “brothers” bail,” the poster said.

He acknowledged that this is a common scam in their area and “usually only older people fall for [it].”

However, it was Emily’s response to his new internet router that set him over the edge.

“Lately, whenever she has come over to my apartment, she would complain about headaches,” he explained.

“Conveniently these headaches started when I bought a new router that has bigger and more visible antennas.”

He said that a month after he installed his new router, Emily informed him that she was electromagnetic hypersensitive.

The Reddit user explained that he was “completely dumbfounded” when she asked him to get rid of the router.

He also pointed out that she has her own internet router at her place, which she didn’t consider to be an issue.

“At this point, I think I just want to stop wasting my time and find a woman who is a little less ridiculous,” he explained.

Most Reddit users seemed to agree that he should break things off with Emily.

“Seems like a no-brainer to break up with someone who thinks so differently from you,” wrote one reader.

“You shouldn’t be with someone you don’t respect, whether she knows that or not,” said another person.

What is electromagnetic hypersensitivity?

The World Health Organization broke down the symptoms associated with the condition, which is also commonly referred to as microwave syndrome.

Electromagnetic hypersensitivity has “a variety of non-specific symptoms, which afflicted individuals attribute to exposure to electromagnetic fields.”

The symptoms most commonly experienced include:

  • Dermatological symptoms – redness, tingling, and burning sensations.
  • Neurasthenic and vegetative symptoms – fatigue, tiredness, concentration difficulties, dizziness, nausea, heart palpitation, and digestive disturbances.

WHO has confirmed that symptoms vary depending on the individual.

“Buy her some tin foil for a hat and then leave,” joked a third commenter.

Not everyone was of the mindset, however.

The original poster explained that some of the people in his life didn’t think the issue was worth ending the relationship over.

“My friends are split with a lot of them saying this is a pathetic reason to break up with someone and my mom agrees,” he explained.

“These are perfectly valid reasons to no longer want to be in a relationship with her,” pointed out another Reddit user.

“Your friends and mother aren’t constantly exposed to her ridiculousness.”
