New York lawmakers passed another extension for the state’s budget on Thursday to ensure state workers get paid and operations continue uninterrupted as negotiations are still underway. The extension bill delays the budget's due date until April 8. Officials are still trying to hash out an agreement on how the state hands out education funding to schools. Gov. Kathy Hochul proposed a plan that quickly drew criticism because it would result in some districts getting less money. State Assemblymember Edward Ra says this second extension throws school districts into an area of uncertainty because they face a looming deadline for submitting their own spending plans.
