American Heritage-Delray girls’ lacrosse team runs record to 13-1
With just two games remaining, the American Heritage girls’ lacrosse team is running on all cylinders.
The Stallions ran their season record to 13-1 as they downed Benjamin, 21-8, and William Penn Charter (Philadelphia), 19-13, after suffering its first loss in 27 games to Bayport-Blue Point Lacrosse (Bayport, New York), 4-1.
Their streak dated back to last season when they closed out the year with 15 straight wins and an 11-4 win over Lake Highland Prep in the state title game.
American Heritage-Delray coach John McClain said his team has a solid balance of seniors mixed in with freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Among the seniors, all of whom have committed to play college lacrosse, is Brooke Goldstein.
She said she is more excited about winning a state championship than signing a national letter of intent with Clemson University, something she did on national signing day back in February. She said the signing day was close behind.
“It is such an adrenalin rush,” said the 18-year-old Goldstein, who lives in Delray Beach. “Not a lot of people get to do it. It’s a great experience and it just shows that working hard does pay off.”
“It’s a process,” said McClain, who started the program at the school 10 years ago and has won state championships in 2018, 2021 and last season. “We develop them, they get ready and sometimes we are fortunate to have some freshman that can really play the game. All across the board, it’s high-level stuff.”
