Cross country skier rescued from Mt. Thielsen after falling, hurting ankle
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A 57-year-old cross country skier was rescued from Mt. Thielsen after falling and hurting her ankle Sunday afternoon.
Trina Reiter of Eugene had been skiing with another person when she fell and could no longer bear any weight on her leg. She and a companion called 911 around 1:30 p.m. and were rescued more than twelve hours later.
A Douglas County search and rescue team had to hike four miles to reach Reiter around 7:45 p.m. After treating her injury, the team returned her to the trailhead by 1:30 a.m and took her to a local hospital.
"This mission shows the dedication of our search and rescue deputies and volunteers who spent their Easter Sunday assisting someone in our community who was in need of their services," said Lt. Brad O'Dell with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
