Louisiana governor signs emergency declaration for storms, tornadoes

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) -- Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry signed an emergency declaration Tuesday afternoon after the severe storms and tornadoes on April 10.
The governor's office said the declaration will allow using state resources. The resources will help recovery in affected parishes.
The parishes that will get debris removal help and emergency measures are Pointe Coupee, West Feliciana, St. Landry and St. Tammany.
One of the areas hardest hit by storms, Slidell in St. Tammany Parish, will get shelter assistance.
The National Weather Service confirmed several tornadoes on April 10. They hit Slidell, St. Francisville and Morganza. The Louisiana Department of Health reported one storm-related death in Rapides Parish.
