I’m a beauty doctor – my go-to methods to grow back thinning hair include a temporary solution to fill in sparse areas
A SELF-DESCRIBED beauty doctor has shared some of her go-to methods to combat hair loss that don’t break the bank.
She offered natural remedies and a useful temporary fix to help conceal sparse areas around the hairline and scalp.
Multi-specialist physician Dr. Azza Halim revealed some of her “tried and true” tricks to grow back thinning hair with The U.S. Sun.
She admitted that even though in-office treatments are “results-driven options,” they can also be “pricey” and not suitable for everyone’s budget.
BUDGET-FRIENDLY BUYS
Dr. Halim shared several cheap recommendations for hair growth solutions that work for almost anyone.
These include vitamin supplements and shampoos for home care.
“Some shampoos and conditioners containing biotin, keratin, or essential oils like rosemary or peppermint may help,” she said.
Another suggestion was “over-the-counter minoxidil solutions, ” like Rogaine Extra Strength 5% Minoxidil Topical Solution, $26.69 from Amazon.
The medical professional explained that they “have been effective,” but people should be mindful of one side effect.
It’s a common occurrence that once stopped, the results have reverted to their baseline.
Like many other hair experts, Dr. Halim suggested trying natural remedies like castor oil or coconut oil.
“Castor oil is a cost-effective option for stimulating hair growth. Apply it to your scalp and massage gently before bed, then wash it out in the morning as many swear by even for eyebrows,” she said.
AVOIDANT ANTICS
Dr. Halim suggested many things to avoid that contribute to hair loss and thinning, like poor nutrition.
She said that our follicles need essential nutrients such as protein and vitamins, especially A, C, D, and E.
Our bodies also need adequate amounts of minerals like iron and zinc.
In addition, avoid stress-inducing activities and try more stress-reducing hobbies, like meditation or yoga.
A key element Dr. Halim talks about is scalp health, which involves keeping it clean and moisturized and avoiding excessive heat styling or harsh chemicals.
“Another tip is to avoid tight hairstyles that can put stress on the hair and cause breakage or make it appear thinner,” she added.
COSMETIC CAMOUFLAGE
The beauty doctor explained that there are a few “cosmetic” options to conceal hair thinning.
They include volumizing shampoos and mousses that can add the “illusion” of thickness and different hairstyles, such as layers or curls to create the illusion of volume.
A quality product she recommended investing in to “fill in sparse areas temporarily” is over-the-counter hair fibers of volumizing powder.
Toppik Hair Building Fibers, $24.95, make fine or thinning follicles look instantly thicker.
