Bicyclist in critical condition after Lafayette crash, all southbound lanes of the NW Evangeline closed

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)-- The Lafayette Police Department is currently investigating a major vehicle crash involving a bicyclist on the 2100 block of NW Evangeline Thruway.
Authorities said a man on a bicycle tried to cross the 2100 block of NW Evangeline Thruway westbound, near Chalmette Drive when a vehicle traveling southbound in the middle lane of the NW Evangeline Thruway hit the bicyclist.
The bicyclist was brought to the hospital in critical condition. The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries, according to authorities.
Officers are still at the location of the crash. All southbound lanes of the NW Evangeline Thruway are closed at this time from the Interstate 10 exit ramp to Chalmette Drive, and motorists are told to avoid the area.
