Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie is in advanced talks over becoming the head coach of Heerenveen in what would be his first management job.
That’s according to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano as he confirmed the reports surrounding the former Netherlands forward and his possible first step into management.
Van Persie retired from playing back in 2019 and has since worked as an assistant manager at Feyenoord, whilst also taking on coaching roles with their youth teams.
Now it looks like RVP is close to taking over at Heerenveen, and it will be intriguing to see how the former Arsenal and Man Utd man gets on in senior management.
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his Daily Briefing column, Romano made it clear that Van Persie is highly regarded in the game, so one imagines there’ll be a lot of interest from fans of the Gunners and Red Devils in how he progresses.

“Another managerial situation to watch out for is with former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie, as I can confirm the reported links with the head coach job at Heerenveen,” Romano said.
“Van Persie is really appreciated and highly rated as a potential manager. Talks with Heerenveen are advanced, it’s a concrete possibility and Van Persie is keen on having an opportunity as a first team coach.
“I’ve been hearing very good things about him, so it will be interesting to see how he gets on in his first role if he does end up securing this job.”
Van Persie was notably a star player for Arsenal for many years but he controversially moved to rivals United in the summer of 2012, before then firing the Red Devils to the Premier League title a year later.
It remains to be seen now if the Dutchman would ever be welcomed back to the Emirates Stadium as manager, or if a future role at Old Trafford is more likely for him.
