Previously, the Shiromani Akali Dal had partnered with the Bharatiya Janata Party, with the BJP traditionally contesting from Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Hoshiarpur as part of the seat-sharing agreement for Punjab's 13 Lok Sabha constituencies.
