Virat Kohli Vs Sunil Gavaskar: Legendary Cricketer Schools RCB Batter, Official Broadcaster On LIVE Show – WATCH VIDEO
New Delhi: Legendary Sunil Gavaskar has hit back at the Indian Premier League’s official broadcasters and Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter Virat Kohli at the same time on live television over the latter’s scathing attack on his critics following RCB’s nine-wicket win against Gujarat Titans on April 28. Gavaskar’s remarks came after Kohli’s ‘outside noise’ rant at the post-match presentation clearly pointing fingers at the commentators who analyse the game based on what they see on the field.
The incident took place just before the start of the match between RCB and Gujarat Titans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With former Australian opener Matthew Hayden and show host Mayanti Langer by his side, Gavaskar hit out at the broadcasters for showing Kohli’s clips multiple times where the former RCB captain speaks about against those who question his strike rate in IPL 2024.
Why Sunil gavaskar sir is only person in whole India who can speak against anyone
Whether Virat, Rohit, dhoni. Why @StarSportsIndia why??
Today also he spoke about slow strike rate of Virat chokli.@ImHydro45 @RofiedAyush @rohitjuglan @45Fan_Prathmesh @VibhuBhola @SushantNMehta pic.twitter.com/MSgTChlaM6— A Billion Dreams (@Rohitian_hitman) May 4, 2024
Visibly disappointed, Gavaskar spoke his heart out stating that particular clip over and over is in a way doing nothing good about their reputation of the broadcaster as a brand. “This particular post match interview has been shown on this channel earlier as well, right now on this particular programme from 6 o’clock. It’s probably been shown half-a-dozen times.
“I hope that Star Sports recognize it that when that is been shown questioning the critics, the critics are your Star Sports commentators that’s questions are being asked. The commentators questioned only when the strike rate was 118 (Kohli’s). For Star Sports, to show their own commentators being belittling, that’s not a great sign,” he pointed out.
The 60-year-old then went on bash Kohli stating if the latter doesn’t care about ‘outside noise’, then why is he even replying. “All these guys talk about, ‘we don’t care about outside noise.’ Then why are you replying to any outside noise or whatever it is. We all played a bit of cricket, not a lot of cricket. We don’t have agendas. We speak about what we see.
“We don’t necessarily have any likes and dislikes. Even if we have likes and dislikes, we actually speak on what is happening,” said the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian cricketer. Earlier, Kohli has lashed out at his critics who questioned his strike rate, stating outside noise don’t bother him.
“All the people who talk about strike-rates and me not playing spin well are the ones talking about this stuff. For me, it’s about winning the games for the team and there’s a reason why you’ve done it for 15 years, you’ve done this day in and day out, you’ve won games for your teams, I’m not quite sure that if you haven’t been in that situation yourself, to sit and talk about the game from the box.
“For me, people can talk about their assumptions day in and day out, but those who have done day in and day out, they know what’s happening and it’s a kind of muscle memory for me now,” Kohli had said.
