Lori has mismanaged archdiocese and should go | READER COMMENTARY

Thanks to the excellent reporting of Jonathan Pitts, Baltimore Catholics have learned what a mess Archbishop William E. Lori has created during his 12 years as archbishop of Baltimore (“Passions strong as Baltimore Catholics debate city realignment plan at final town hall,” May 1).

I was shocked to see that the attendance numbers were so much lower than expected. This did not happen overnight. Lori has been responsible for the stewardship of assets and resources. He has failed miserably, but it is the people in the pew who will pay the consequences.

I am very displeased with the archbishop because things are much worse than I had expected. Our priests are overworked and spread too thin, while Lori lives in the lap of luxury. The pain of downsizing that we will be experiencing should have taken place more than 10 years ago. The best thing for the archdiocese would be for Lori to apologize to the good people of Baltimore and resign.
