Report: Napoli submit opening offer for centre-back linked with Tottenham

In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham in their pursuit of Alessandro Buongiorno, Corriere dello Sport have claimed that Napoli have now submitted an opening offer for the Torino star.

Many Italian outlets have credited Tottenham with an interest in Buongiorno over the last few weeks, with the centre-back expected to make a big move this summer on the back of a couple of excellent seasons in Turin.

This included an update by CalcioMercato, who claimed last week that Spurs and Inter Milan are set to battle it out for the 24-year-old, suggesting that the Premier League side could try to financially outmuscle the Nerazzurri to the player.

However, according to Corriere’s latest update, it is Napoli who have acted first, having submitted an opening offer for Buongiorno.

The report says that last season’s Serie A champions have made the Italy international their top transfer target this summer as they look to add reinforcements to their backline.

The club have allegedly sent an offer of an initial €35m (£30m) plus €5m (£4.2m) in bonuses and are waiting to hear back from Torino on the bid.

A few Italian outlets have reported that Buongiorno would like to remain in Serie A and I would not be surprised if that is the case as the centre-back tries to maintain his upward trajectory and establish himself as the fixture in the national side.
