LAGOS ASSURES EMPLOYERS OF QUALITY MANPOWER FROM STATE TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS
Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Tertiary Education, has assured employers in the state of quality graduates from the state-owned tertiary institutions.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule when addressing a meeting of students in the state-owned tertiary institutions and employers of labour at the Lagos Students Career Expo organised by the students and the Ministry at the University of Lagos over the weekend
The Commissioner, who was represented at the occasion by a Director in the Ministry, Kike Oduwole, said the Career Expo was an opportunity for the Ministry to hear directly from the employers of labour as critical stakeholders in the labour market on how to continually improve the quality of teaching and learning in the state higher institutions.
According to him, the state government has invested enormous resources in manpower development, provision of facilities, infrastructure, and a good environment for students to learn and acquire skills in all its institutions.
Sule advised students to grab the EXPO opportunity to ask relevant questions from potential employers that will allow them to get jobs and opportunities that will guide their paths to execute personal actions which will lead to career advancement programmes geared towards life progress and sustainable career goals.
The Commissioner reminded them that getting a job is daunting in this ever-challenging environment. Therefore, they must be ready to leave their comfort zone, have a penchant for innovation, and have the ability to display multicultural competence as part of their background. This would ensure that they are separated from others in the labour market which is filled with an abundance of people applying for the same job.
He informed employers at the Expo that the current peaceful atmosphere that pervades the state government-owned institutions and the seamless academic calendar being enjoyed are testimonies to the commitment of the current administration to have world-standard tertiary institutions run in line with the best practices to produce qualified graduates who can compete for jobs globally.
One of the organisers of the Expo, Salaam Abimbola thanked the
State Government for giving quality education, assuring the participants that the event would achieve its goals of providing job opportunities for students.
The Career Expo was organised as a feedback mechanism for the Ministry from employers and to create job opportunities for students.
