0

SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) - The Old Stone Fort in Schoharie is a museum that houses the area's rich history. It was built in 1772 as a High Dutch Reformed Church.

During the Revolutionary War, the stone church was enclosed by a log stockade in 1777. It was one of three forts located along the Schoharie River. In 1889, the Schoharie County Historical Society was chartered to operate a museum at the Old Fort.

The Old Stone Fort Museum is located at 145 Fort Rd. in Schoharie. In May, the museum is open on Mondays from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on weekends. Beginning in June, they'll expand their hours.

In 2020, NEWS10 visited The Old Stone Fort. At the time the museum was closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the grounds of the complex remain open to visitors.
