Posting under the name Butterflyghostt, they spoke candidly about having previously made mistakes with their haircare routine.
“I use Kerastase Genesis which is their line to prevent breakage from brushing etc. I’m trying to grow out my hair,” they said.
“I like it, it smells great and I have noticed less hair falling.”
Kérastase Genesis Strengthening Shampoo costs $42 at Sephora.
The Redditor recommended having a relatively basic routine to avoid damaging hair.
“Don’t put too much into your hair because that’s what broke my hair off,” they said.
“Shampoo, conditioner. Use a hair mask once every week.
“Can use a cleansing shampoo like Ouai Detox to get the dirt off the scalp easier but don’t use this too often.
“Then I would make sure to use a hair oil when you can.
“I apply verb ghost oil at night and wear Olaplex bonding oil at night.
“I use to put so much stuff in my hair trying to fix it and grow it, but all the random products made it worse and break off.
“Just keep it simple.
“A scalp oil could be nice too. A healthy scalp will definitely help it grow.”
VERB Ghost Oil costs $20 on Amazon, where it has a whopping 4.7-star rating out of a possible 5.
Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil is sold on Amazon for $30.
Over 20,000 shoppers have purchased the item from the online retailer in the past month.
What causes hair loss?
Alexander Armand is a celebrity hairstylist and the creator of hair loss oil Flourish by Alexander Armand.
“Some common causes for hair loss include stress, alopecia, hereditary hair loss, chemical treatments, high tension hairstyles, diet, and certain medications,” Armand told The U.S. Sun.
“Androgenetic Alopecia which is also known as pattern baldness, is the most common cause of hair loss and is a genetic condition that causes hair thinning on the crown and top of the head in women, and thinning and receding hairlines in men.
“Telogen Effluvium is the technical term for a temporary form of hair loss that occurs when a large number of hair follicles enter the resting (telogen) phase due to stress, illness, surgery, childbirth, or major life changes.
“Hair typically grows back within a few months.
“Alopecia Areata is another form of alopecia that is an autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks hair follicles, causing hair loss in patches.
“The severity varies, some people may lose all hair while others may experience regrowth.
“When it relates to your diet, deficiencies in nutrients such as iron, vitamin D, biotin, zinc, and protein can contribute to hair loss.
“Traction alopecia can occur due to tight hairstyles like ponytails, braids, or buns that put stress on the hair follicles.
“Excessive heat styling or chemical treatments can also damage hair.
“Also, certain medications, like chemotherapy drugs, blood thinners, and some antidepressants, can cause hair loss as a side effect.”
According to the manufacturer, Olaplex Bonding Oil strengthens and protects hair from heat damage.
One to two drops is enough for those with short, fine hair, while those with thicker locks may need to apply three or more for best results.
Many people up-voted the Redditor’s post to show their appreciation for the tip and several commenters said they also swear by Olaplex products for preventing breakage.
“Olaplex, Pureology strength cure, stay off heat tools if you can, use leave-in conditioner (Bumble & Bumble spray for heat protectant is good for this),” one person wrote.
“I would say Olaplex or Bondi Boost products,” another said.
“I have fine hair and love both. They have made my hair so healthy.”
