Beloved TV presenter gives first look at brand new BBC Radio show after impressing station bosses with guest slot
PADDY McGuinness has given fans a first-look at the studio of his highly-anticipated new radio show.
The TV host, 50, impressed Radio 2 bosses while standing in for Rylan Clark on his Saturday afternoon show.
His successful stint led to talks with station boss Helen Thomas about a long-term role.
Paddy – known for his work hosting Take Me Out and Top Gear – updated his 2.1 million Instagram followers on the preparation ahead of his own show’s first broadcast.
He wrote: “Prepping for my new @bbcradio2 show!
“We go live and direct across the UK at 11am – 1pm every Sunday from June 2nd. I promise you great music and above average chat. Can’t wait!!! #sunday #R2.”
In March, it was reported Paddy was being lined-up for his own Radio 2 show.
A source said at the time: “Paddy is a natural fit for Helen’s vision of Radio 2, and is an effortless broadcaster.
“He’s proven a hit with listeners since filling in for Rylan, and was brought in for talks about the future.
“Like fellow Bolton-born host Vernon Kay, Paddy’s Northern tones – and cheesy dad jokes – work well on air, and he has come up with some brilliant, innovative ideas for formats of his own.”
Before stepping in for Rylan, Paddy also previously held the fort for Vernon’s Ten to the Top while the fellow presenter ran an ultra marathon for Children In Need.
The update on Paddy’s new radio show comes as the presenter sparked Top Gear return rumours despite BBC having axed the show.
Paddy reunited with former co-star, motoring journalist Chris Harris, 49, with their reunion shared in a social media snap.
Paddy wrote with the post: “From administration to the playoff finals! What an amazing job Ian Evatt, Sharon Brittan, her team and this squad have done for the town. Good luck from Sweden. Let’s ave it!!! #bwfc #playoffs
Although the long-running show came to an end in 2022, it appears Paddy and Chris have continued a friendship.
Chris initially worked alongside Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc upon joining Top Gear in 2016.
He stayed with the show and was part of the team when Paddy and Freddie Flintoff joined in 2019.
