Portland bridges to see traffic delays due to movie production

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland drivers can expect bridge delays starting this week, as a film crew begins production on a new drama.

Multnomah County officials reported there will be traffic delays of up to five minutes on the Morrison Bridge from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21. The Broadway Bridge will also experience filming-related delays from 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. that evening.

On Wednesday, May 22, Burnside Bridge traffic will also be delayed up to five minutes from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Later on Friday, June 12, the Hawthorne Bridge will have a short delay from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m.

Flaggers will direct traffic for all delays.

A Multnomah County spokesperson confirmed the delays are due to filming of “The Night Always Comes,” a movie based on Willy Vlautin’s novel of the same name. The book tells the story of a working-class woman who dedicates one day to collecting money so she and her mother can afford to buy their home in Portland.

According to entertainment news site Deadline, the film will star Vanessa Kirby — the actress best known for her role as Princess Margaret in Netflix’s “The Crown.”

The role led to multiple nominations and one trophy from the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards and British Academy Television Awards.
