MANHATTAN (KSNT) - After crashing into a liquor store and being arrested for a DUI, the former Manhattan Mayor entered a "non guilty plea" at his first court appearance.
Former Manhattan Mayor Winfried Butler appeared in court for the first time Tuesday, May 21 after being arrested for driving under the influence and crashing into a local liquor store two weeks ago. According to Manhattan Municipal Courts, Butler entered a not guilty plea.
Butler's next court appearance will be 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26.
Around 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, Butler was arrested after crashing his car into Candlewood Liquor, according to the Riley County Police Department (RCPD). He was arrested for driving under the influence. According to the RCPD, there estimated total of loss to the liquor store is over $1,000.
A spokesman with the City of Manhattan told 27 News Butler resigned effective Thursday morning, May 9. City Commissioner Susan Adamchak took on the role as mayor upon Butler's resignation.
