The Copa America 2024 is fast approaching and all the teams playing would be looking to get their hands on the trophy. The current favourites to win are the usual powerhouses- Brazil and Argentina – but there is a chance that the trophy could be snatched from beneath them by none other than Colombia.
Columbia: The Dark Horses?
Colombia come into this tournament as a dark horse. There isn’t much noise and ruckus being created around Los Cafeteros this time around and that can work exactly in their favour. Colombia are a footballing nation with a lot of heritage and have one Copa America title in their cabinet. Colombia are yet to announce their official squad but they have a lot of interesting prospects to pick from.
A Mix of New And Old Talent
Colombia have a lot of heavy talent to pick from in all positions. This includes veteran goalkeeper David Ospina, Luis Diaz, Juan Cuadrado, Yerry Mina and several other talents. A team with the right sort of mixture of veteran and upcoming stars could make a deep run for the Copa America and might just win it too. It still remains to see which players will be picked for the prestigious tournament.
Undefeated Since 2022
Unlike the other teams, Colombia have the momentum going into the tournament. They are unbeaten in the last 20 games. Colombia’s last defeat came in February 2022 against Argentina. During this spectacular run, Colombia defeated the likes of Brazil, Spain, Germany and Japan who are all considered as the powerhouses of football. Having said that, its never going to be easy for them as Colombia are set to face Brazil in the group stages and could have a potential quarterfinal match against Uruguay or USA. Colombia are in form and are playing good football without the spotlight being on them and this has made them as a dark horse of the Copa America 2024.
