Justin Langer SNUBS India Head Coach Job Following KL Rahul’s Advise
Mumbai: Lucknow Super Giants coach Justin Langer, who was reportedly in the fray to apply for the position of Team India head coach, has decided against the idea. Langer has snubbed the idea of applying for the head coach job following advise from KL Rahul. Langer revealed that Rahul spoke of the pressure and the politics that exists in cricket in India.
“It would be an amazing job, [but] I have [put myself out of contention],” Langer said on BBC’s Stumped podcast. “I also know that it’s an all-encompassing role, and having done it for four years with the Australian team, honestly, it’s exhausting. And that’s the Australian job!”
“You never say never,” Langer said about taking up the job some time on the future.
“And the pressure of doing it in India… I was talking to KL Rahul and he said, ‘You know, if you think there’s pressure and politics in an IPL team, multiply that by a thousand, [that’s] coaching India. That was a good bit of advice, I guess. It would be an awesome job, but not for me at the moment,” said Langer.
Langer, who has been Australia’s head coach from May 2018 to February 2022, was being looked at as a promising option to succeed Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ends after the T20 World Cup.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants could not make it to the playoffs in IPL 2024. It was a mixed show, they finished seventh in the league stage with seven wins in 14 games.
