ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Happy Friday! According to Meteorologists Jordan Due and Matt Mackie, we are going to have a great start to the holiday weekend with minimal clouds today and staying in the low 80s, even upper 70s at times.
An arrest was made in the dirt bike crash that hospitalized a UAlbany student in April. Also, two fallen New York National Guard members who were killed in a helicopter crash were honored ahead of Memorial Day on Thursday. 1. Arrest made in Hudson Avenue dirtbike hit-and-run
Police arrested Austin Breyette after executing a search warrant in Watervliet on Thursday at around 6:15 a.m. According to the Albany Police Department, Breyette crashed an illegal dirtbike into a UAlbany student who has still not recovered.
2. Albany PD arrests 12-year-old for attempted murder
A pre-teen was arrested by Albany police on Tuesday in connection to a shooting on South Pearl Street. A 48-year-old woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the arm.
3. Grants helping local organizations fight opioid epidemic
According to Albany County leaders, there were 126 overdose deaths in the county in 2023, a heartbreaking number from an epidemic that has touched just about every person in our region.
4. NYS sheriff’s association urges safe boating practices
Local lakes are starting to fill with swimmers and boaters ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, and law enforcement is issuing a few warnings for those heading into the water.
5. Frankoski, Grassia honored in Memorial Day ceremony
Two fallen New York National Guard members, who were killed in a helicopter crash, were honored on Thursday ahead of Memorial Day.
