Red Stars Drop Fourth Home Match in Five
Chicago Red Stars 0-1 Racing Louisville
BRIDGEVIEW, IL–The Chicago Red Stars were trying to find a way to get back on the winning side. However, the Red Stars were held off the board and suffered its second straight loss. Racing Louisville FC went on to take a 1-0 victory over the Red Stars at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday night.
It was a victory that Racing Louisville FC needed as they improved to (3-2-6, 15 points) and the Red Stars with the loss fall to (5-6-1, 16 points). Emma Sears scored the only goal that Racing Louisville FC needed from the top right side of the box right into the top corner in the 26th minute.
“I saw a window of opportunity and took the ball,” Sears said. “It fell in my favor. I was super comfortable with that.”
Katie Lund preserved the clean sheet for Racing Louisville with 5 saves.
“I thought it was a solid performance for 90 minutes,” Lund said. “The second half was a bit more chaotic, and we had to keep things together. We finished the game and came out with three points.”
The Red Stars didn’t start all that well in the first half. Racing Louisville FC had put Chicago on their heels, but there was a change in the second half where the Red Stars made some switches and started to apply pressure around the goal. However, they couldn’t get the ball into the back of the net.
“It’s something that we’re searching for,” Chicago Red Stars coach Lorne Donaldson said. “We know the first half whatever we need to do, we need to change and come up with something and get out to be quicker. Second half, we had some players hungry to come in. They came in and did well. Those were some of the younger players that got a chance. Always nice when a player comes in and does well. It gives you some future options. They gave us a lift and player energy. That’s what we want.”
Still, at this point of the season, the Red Stars are still a work in progress.
“Players are new and the players are trying to jell,” Donaldson said. “It’s hard to come in and to put something together. It’s going to be patchy and a rollercoaster. There are times like this, and we have to get through it. Hopefully, in a few more games, it might get more consistent. Being inconsistent is going to be a part of it. I’m not bothered by the rollercoaster, because that’s putting a new group together.”
Chicago will next be hosting Bay City FC on Saturday, June 8th 6:30 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field. At this point, the Red Stars have mentioned that 23,000 tickets have been sold already for that match. Racing Louisville FC will next host the Houston Dash on Friday, June 7th at 7 p.m.
