Report: Spurs interest has been ‘piqued’ as Ivan Toney price tag drops

TEAMtalk have claimed that Tottenham are set to resume their efforts to sign Ivan Toney after Brentford decided to drop the striker’s asking price.

The report states that Ange Postecoglou has told the Spurs hierarchy to sign a top-class number nine this summer and Toney was one of the names on the club’s radar.

It is explained Tottenham had been put off by the Bees’ initial demands of £60m and decided to call off the pursuit.

However, the West London side have now allegedly dropped their asking price to around £30m-£40m and this is thought to have piqued the Lilywhites’ interest.

Spurs battle with Man Utd for Ivan Toney

The report says that while Arsenal had initially expressed an interest in Toney, they have now turned their attention to RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko or Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee.

This has left the door open for both Spurs and Man Utd, with the two clubs now potentially set to battle it out for the England international.

United are thought to be keen on taking some of the goalscoring burden off Rasmus Hojlund’s shoulders and allegedly see the Brentford star as the ideal choice to supplement and compete with the young Dane.

If it is a straight battle between us and United for Toney, the Tottenham hierarchy might fancy their chances of getting the striker. 

While Spurs might be a more attractive destination for the 28-year-old at the moment, the Red Devils would probably be willing to offer the player a better pay package, which might sway his decision.
