Report: Postecoglou may have handed Spurs star a big international boost

Voetbal International have said that Micky van de Ven could operate as a left-back for the Netherlands at the European Championships after impressing for Tottenham in that position.

Van de Ven had an outstanding debut season in the Premier League, even being named Tottenham’s Player of the Season by the club’s Official Supporters’ Clubs despite missing nearly three months of football due to injury.

The Dutchman showcased his versatility towards the end of the season, with Ange Postecoglou deciding to play him at left-back against Manchester City and Sheffield United after losing both Desinty Udogie and Ben Davies to injuries.

The 23-year-old impressed in that role and that has reportedly opened the door for Ronald Koeman to use him in that position at the Euros this summer.

The report says that while the Netherlands boss initially considered the Tottenham man as a backup for central defence, the player will now be considered as a potential starter at left-back.

The publication points out that while the Oranje have plenty of options in the heart of their backline, they are not as well stocked at left-back.
