NHL fans were furious Jacob Trouba wasn't ejected for this vicious elbow on Evan Rodrigues
Jacob Trouba is once again making noise in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and not in a good way.
Nearly three weeks to the day after Trouba became a meme in NHL circles for his dangerous missed hit on Carolina Hurricanes forward Marty Necas, the Rangers captain landed himself in hot water once again. On Sunday, during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final between the Rangers and Florida Panthers, Trouba rocked Evan Rodrigues with an elbow to the face in the closing minutes of the second period.
The hit from Trouba was as blatant as it gets, with the Rangers defenseman leading into Rodrigues with his elbow after a missed poke check in front of his own net.
Rodrigues ultimately left the ice with help and didn’t return to the second period, but when time came to dole out Trouba’s punishment, the Rangers captain was given an elbowing minor and a slashing minor. Given how flagrant the elbow was, it’s mind boggling that the officials deemed Trouba worthy of two minor penalties instead of a full five-minute major or a likely-deserved ejection.
NHL fans were also furious Trouba wasn’t ejected for his vicious elbow on Rodrigues, especially given his history of dirty play.
