Orioles 4, White Sox 1: nearly no-hit
South Siders grab just one hit, as they now hold a five-game skid
The Baltimore Orioles have came to the South Side and completed a four-game sweep over the Chicago White Sox, as the Birds now hold a four-game win streak and now the Sox a five-game losing streak. After a rain delay before first pitch, Kyle Bradish and Garrett Crochet came out firing — but only one offense carried their team to a win.
It was a pitchers’ duel the whole day, with defensive plays from both teams to help keep it scoreless early on, including this sliding catch from Corey Julks.
The first runs of the ballgame came in the top of the sixth inning after Jordan Westburg singled, followed by an Adley Rutschman two-run home run for a 2-0 lead.
Aside from that, Crochet had a great outing, going six innings with three hits, two runs, one walk, and 11 strikeouts.
Unfortunately, Bradish had an even better outing, going seven innings of no-hit baseball with four walks and 11 strikeouts.
The first hit of the game for the South Side came in the bottom of the eighth inning as Danny Mendick cranked a solo shot to left. At that point, Bradish had been replaced by lefty Danny Coulombe, so Bradish was indeed hitless all game.
Michael Soroka also pitched three innings of relief, allowing two more runs to get the Orioles up to a 4-1 lead. And because of course, Craig Kimbrel closed it for the win.
The White Sox now sit at a whopping 15-39 record, and once they hit 40 losses that will look significantly worse. The disaster continues, and there’s not much more left to say.
The Toronto Blue Jays will come into town tomorrow as Nick Nastrini is set to get the start. Nastrini, you recall, was mauled in Toronto just last week. Game time is at 1:10 p.m. CT, and hopefully they can grab us a win for this Memorial Day Weekend.
