Insecurity in Pakistan: Five soldiers killed and six injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Foreign media have reported a clash between Pakistani security forces and militants in the northwest region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in the death of at least five soldiers and injuring six others.
Voice of America reported that this clash occurred early this morning Monday, May 27, in the “Darra Adam Khel” area of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The “Lashkar-e-Islam” and TTP groups have claimed responsibility for the incident.
According to reports, five soldiers were killed and six others injured in this clash. It is also noteworthy that at least four militants were killed during the clash.
Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, reiterated on Sunday, before the attack, Islamabad’s request to the Taliban administration to immediately prevent Pakistani Taliban from exploiting Afghan soil.
Naqvi stated in a press conference that “if the headquarters of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan remain in Afghanistan” and no action is taken to dismantle them, improving relations with Kabul will be “very challenging” for Islamabad.
He clarified: “We seek good relations with Afghanistan, but this is only possible if they do not allow their land to be used for terrorism against Pakistan.”
Meanwhile, the Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported in a statement from the country’s army, published on Sunday, May 26, that two military personnel, including a senior army member, were killed in the city of Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan are provinces located along the Durand Line and have been the site of the most security incidents in recent years.
In April 2023, Pakistan’s National Security Council announced a comprehensive operation to eliminate terrorism and stated in a declaration that “a comprehensive and extensive operation with efforts at political, diplomatic, security, economic, and social levels will be launched to eradicate the scourge of terrorism in all its forms.”
Recently, security officials in Pakistan announced that as a result of operations over the past month aimed at suppressing terrorist groups near the Durand Line in Balochistan province, 29 militants were killed.
It is noteworthy that insecurity in Pakistan has reached its peak, with militant groups, including TTP, increasing their attacks in various parts of the country.
