Report: Spurs plotting double move to sign Championship midfielder and defender

The Northern Echo have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are plotting a double move for Middlesbrough duo Rav van den Berg and Hayden Hackney this summer.

The report says that Tottenham’s recruitment department have been scouring the market for potential options as they look to bulk up the squad ahead of their return to Europe next season, with the club said to be focussing on promising, up-and-coming youngsters.

Van den Berg and Hackney are two players who have caught their eye, with both men thought to be on Spurs’ transfer list.

The report points out that Tottenham’s interest in Hackney is ‘long-standing’, with the club extensively scouting the 21-year-old last season.

The Lilywhites continued to monitor the midfielder closely over the course of this season and even allegedly considered an offer for the player during the January transfer window.

It is revealed that Spurs’ interest in Van den Berg is much more recent, with the teenager having an impressive debut season in English football since joining from NEC Zwolle last summer.

The outlet states that the Lilywhites have been impressed with the Dutchman’s showing at the Riverside Stadium this campaign and that his ability to play as a right-back and a centre-back is thought to appeal to the North London club.

Tottenham would need to look for young, up-and-coming talent as squad cover in key positions as relatively experienced players like Adarabioyo are not going to be keen on warming the bench at N17.
