Player admits he is ‘excited and a little nervous’ ahead of joining Tottenham squad
Lucas Bergvall is nervous ahead of his big move to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, admitting that it is hard not to think about what life in London has in store for him.
Tottenham’s acquisition of Bergvall in January was widely seen as a real coup at the time and the youngster’s performances since then have made the deal look like an even bigger masterstroke.
The 18-year-old has been on fire for Djurgardens this season, netting a brace in his latest outing away at Mjallby on Saturday, which included a beautifully struck volley from the edge of the box.
The midfielder has now been speaking about the impending switch to Tottenham in the summer, admitting that the move still has not fully sunk in and that he has always dreamed of playing in the Premier League.
When asked about now being a Spurs player, Bergvall told Svenskafans: “At times it can be difficult to accept that fact. I don’t know if I’ve realised it yet. I’ve just tried to focus on Djurgården. But now it’s so close, it’s hard not to think about it. I’m incredibly excited and a little nervous, as it should be.
“It feels sad to leave them here at home. But at the same time, my dream since I was a kid has been to play in the Premier League, it goes both ways.”

The Sweden international also confessed that it has been a challenge to cope with the increased media attention since making the big move in January.
When asked about now being in the spotlight, the youngster responded: “Of course, sometimes it can be a bit much. Wherever you are, you hear things – at school, at home, among players or in town. Almost all the time you hear something and many people ask and wonder.
“You have to disconnect from that to be able to focus on yourself. So, it’s a lot, but at the same time, it’s something I have to get used to now that I’m going to be a footballer.
“I feel like I have good people around me and I’ve realised for myself that thinking I’m better than everyone else isn’t going to make me a better footballer.”

The step up in quality and pressure from the Allsvenskan to the Premier League is monumental and Bergvall is going to need plenty of time to adapt.
Spurs fans should not expect to see much of the youngster during the 2024-25 season as he adjusts to the pace and demands of football at the highest level.
