Pundit says rival fans will ‘go insane’ if Spurs win the race for one PL star
Jason Cundy has urged Chelsea to hang on to Conor Gallagher and has warned the Blues hierarchy that there will be a fan backlash if the midfielder is sold to Spurs.
As we edge close to the summer transfer window, the writing seems to be on the wall for Gallagher, who has just a year left to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge.
Just last week, Football Insider became the latest outlet to confirm that there are no contract talks ongoing between Chelsea and the 24-year-old’s entourage, with the player now realising that his time at his boyhood club might be up.
The report added that Tottenham are at the front of the queue to secure Gallagher’s signature as the England international is thought to be prioritising remaining in London if he is to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
However, a couple of days ago, BBC Sport stated that the midfielder is reluctant to greenlight a transfer before the Euros and asserted that the West London club could demand £50m for the player this summer despite his contract situation.
Chelsea fans will go mad if Spurs get Conor Gallagher
Cundy believes that Chelsea will be making a huge mistake by letting Gallagher leave this summer.
The pundit told talkSPORT (24/05/24): “He (Conor Gallagher) is not going to get in Arsenal or City. What Conor brings is absolute enthusiasm, his work-rate and hard work is unrivalled. I think you could perhaps say in terms of that high press, in terms of what he gives you, I don’t think there are too many hard-working midfielders in the country than him.
“His energy levels are obscene. He keeps going, So, someone that wants, anyone who wants to play a high press, I can see him, Newcastle are interested, Spurs are interested, especially the way Postecoglou wants to play, I can see that. The Chelsea fans will go insane, by the way, if he goes to Spurs.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Gallagher came through the ranks at Cobham and is evidently quite popular among the Chelsea fan base. So the Blues would be aware of the possibility of a fan backlash if the midfielder is sold to Spurs. So Tottenham will not want to put all their eggs in the Gallagher basket.
