‘The first thing’ – Heung-min Son sends message to Tottenham fans ahead of next season
Son Heung-min has thanked the Tottenham supporters for their unwavering support throughout the season and vowed that he and his teammates will come back even stronger next campaign.
The 2023-24 season represented the start of a new era for Tottenham, with Son being handed the captain’s armband and Ange Postecoglou starting his reign as head coach.
The Australian managed to successfully turn the Lilywhites from a counter-attacking outfit to one which presses high up the pitch and looks to dominate possession-wise and territorially.
However, there were certainly more than a few hiccups, particularly in the latter part of the season as the North London side stumbled to a fifth-place finish and missed out on Champions League qualification.
Heung-min Son looks back on his season as Spurs captain
Despite Spurs’ struggles over the last few months, there appears to be plenty of optimism regarding what next season can bring and that optimism is seemingly shared by Son, who confidently asserted that Tottenham will be a stronger side in 2024-25.
The South Korean wrote on Instagram: “Finally home. Resting up. Looking back at the year. A season of ups and downs, but a season of progress. The first thing I think of is how we’ve grown stronger and closer as a team and club. We have excitement around the place looking forward to the next few years. We’re going to rest up over the summer and come out next season even stronger.
“A special message of thanks to all of you, the supporters. This season we have had some of the most special atmospheres I’ve experienced yet. As my first year as captain, to be leading the boys is a privilege and something I’m so proud of. I’m looking forward to seeing you all again soon. Lots of love, Sonny. #COYS.”

It is clear that Son and all the senior players at the club have fully bought into Postecoglou’s methods and are convinced that this will yield success over the long term.
While that bodes well for next season, the Spurs boss will realise the importance of starting well and will be aware that doubts will start creeping into the players’ minds if the Lilywhites suffer a couple of losses early in the campaign.
