Orlando Bloom (‘Orlando Bloom: To the Edge’): Stepping out of your comfort zone ‘is where the magic of life can really live’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
“I’ve come to realize that there is magic in that space when you step out of your daily routines,” declares Orlando Bloom about facing fear and stepping out of your comfort zone, the central theme behind his new nonfiction adventure series “Orlando Bloom: To the Edge.” For our recent webchat he adds, “What does it take for you, the viewer, to be on your edge,” he says. “Whatever it may be, it’s something where you’re not going with the flow, but you’re pushing your flow into other tributaries, and you’re going into that other space, because that to me is where the magic of life can really live. And you can have the experience that gives you something more than you expected.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

In “Orlando Bloom: To the Edge,” the actor and adventure enthusiast embarks on a physical, mental and spiritual journey of self-discovery as he undertakes three extreme sports — wingsuiting, free diving and rock climbing — to push himself to the edge of what is possible. The three-part Peacock series follows Bloom as he endures intensive training by experts, who help him overcome obstacles, face his fears and discover valuable lessons about himself, with family, friends and his spiritual Buddhist practice guiding the way.
“This opportunity was presented to me, something that I invited into my life, and I accepted that challenge. I think it is going to stand me in greater stead than almost anything that I’ve done in my life, outside of my work with UNICEF, which is where I found myself in very challenging corners of the world,” Bloom explains. The actor says he enthusiastically put himself out there in this series, testing his limits and demonstrating an unvarnished and earnest vulnerability as he faced some of his fears head on. “We are born into this life and have the opportunity to live this lifetime, and is something that was heightened through this show. I think this show is so much more than just an action adventure, adrenaline junkie show,” he remarks, adding, “my intention going into it was to have an experience as a human who is incredibly lucky, and who is also aware of that good fortune and is trying to experience all of the things that life can throw at you and grow from it. You reach point in life, and you just want to keep moving forward. Keep taking action and living. And that living just beyond your level of comfort is definitely something that I would subscribe to.
