Report: Galatasaray enter the race to sign Tottenham outcast this summer
Emerson Royal has attracted intense interest from AC Milan already this summer, but now Turkish champions, Galatasaray, are also keen on signing the Tottenham Hotspur full-back.
Throughout the 2023/24 campaign, Royal was a versatile and fairly useful member of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad, filling in at right-back, left-back, and centre-back at different stages of the season.
However, the Tottenham man has been earmarked for a departure this summer, with Postecoglou thought to be of the opinion that Royal isn’t comfortable in his system (The Athletic).
Apparently, AC Milan have already held preliminary talks with Royal’s representatives about a move this summer (Gianluca Di Marzio). It is believed Tottenham want €30m (£25.5m) for the Brazilian (Gazzetta dello Sport via Football Italia).
According to Fabrizio Romano, Royal himself is keen on the move to Italy, and the price could even be as low as €20m (£17m), with personal terms not an issue.
Emerson Royal has suitors in Turkey too
Before that potential move does go ahead, though, AC Milan will have to contend with competition from Turkish side Galatasaray.
That’s according to Takvim, who suggest Royal is on Galatasaray’s list of targets for the summer, with the club ready to “press the button” to make the signing happen.
Meanwhile, Fotospor have highlighted Royal as a “surprise name” on Galatasaray’s shopping list. The report adds that he “wants to leave” Spurs and does view a move to Turkey rather “favourably.”
Apparently, “negotiations will begin soon” between the two clubs, but Galatasaray are thought to be offering only €10m (£8.5m), which is likely to be rejected.
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s great to see Emerson Royal having plenty of options this summer, and I actually think he will do brilliantly in either Italy or Turkey as those leagues are quite well-suited to his game. I’m excited to see who we sign to replace him, too.
