Saw the beach around 0900 today and can report that the open stretches are still wildly out of control, but there were waves at the Bower, South Steyne and Dee Why point. The Bower looked to be the pick of the three. Some very impressive looking sets marching in at regular intervals for the crowd out there.
The Bureau tells us that the swell should back off gradually, but this morning’s marine forecast (see below pics) has ‘large and powerful surf conditions’ warnings through to Friday.
Stay out of the water beginners! Everybody else, just wait until the conditions settle into your skill range. South magnet will be the go and SW wind along with mostly sunny weather should be a good thing. Long range models are showing good to very good surf prospects into early next week. What a month June’s been!

Weather Situation
A deep low pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea is generating vigorous southerly winds and large and powerful waves along the coastal waters of New South Wales. Winds and waves are expected to ease gradually today and Wednesday, with winds turning westerly as the low weakens while a high pressure ridge develops over the northern Tasman Sea. Then a trough of low pressure looks set to cross the coastal waters on Friday, bringing a return to fresh to strong southwesterly airstream in the wake.
